ISLAND GALLERY
The name Ko Pha-ngan derives from the word "ngan", meaning 'sand bar' in southern Thai, as there are many sand bars that decorate the offshore coastline.
The island is Thailand’s 5th biggest island and really one of the most beautiful and abundant. Located 70 km from the mainland and 12 km from its sister island, Koh Samui, Phangan relies on ferries from the mainland and Koh Samui to transport her visitors.
The island is renowned for its lush tropical jungle interior, many idyllic, long, white-sand beaches and over 20 nearby dive sites. The main disembarkation points are Thongsala and Haad Rin.
Due to its topography, the population hugs the coastline. More than half the island designated as national park and Ko Pha-ngan has more than 80 km2 (31 sq mi) of relatively unspoiled rain forest with diverse flora and fauna. It is also considered a spiritual place, with numerous Buddhist temples around the island and a thriving spa, retreat, and meditation industry.
